I wanted to share with you an easy, inexpensive way to transform any room in your house. PAINT! When I moved in to my apartment every wall was off-white (like most apartments). I needed something different, and that’s where paint came in. Now, I love buying new accessories to decorate with just like anyone else, but in my opinion, paint is the greatest accessory.
You can choose to paint an entire room or just 1 or 2 walls. I love a good accent wall. It doesn’t take as much time, and it makes just as much of a statement.
For my apartment, I chose the small wall around my window. I did this because the room is narrow (and I have to paint it back if I decide to move). I didn’t want to make the room look any smaller than it is. For the color, I chose orange. Yes, I matched it to a UT shirt my brother gave meJ I received these amazing curtains for Christmas that had an array of colors leaving me with a lot of options. In the end, I knew that the orange in the flowers would pop the best. Orange is energetic, fun, and bright. It’s one of my favorites to design with.
Changing up your paint color is way to broaden your horizons and be adventurous in your home. You don’t have to use something as vibrant as orange, but even a dark shade of the existing color is a nice change. Just like I did with my curtains, pick an accessory in your room (i.e. picture, painting, pillow, or curtains), pick a great color from the pattern and your whole design can be inspired by that. You can buy great paint at Home Depot and Lowe's. I suggest using one with the paint and primer in one. It lets you use fewer coats, i.e. less work. Also, buy strong painters tape. If you feel a little overwhelmed in the store, ask someone in the paint department. They are usually very helpful, and if not, you can ask meJ
Oh, and I didn’t pay anyone to do it either. My dad and I did it together. When you paint enough rooms, you realize it’s actually fun and rewarding! Have your older kids help or maybe ask a significant other to join in. You’ll be spending time together while getting work done! Now go out there and paint! Happy designing,
Jordan
