"But whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster."
- Proverbs 1:33 (ESV)
This morning I went into a time of solitude with the prayer that God may bring me direction, comfort, and rest in Him. Look at the words I underlined: listen, secure, ease. How great is our God? In 30 minutes time I was drawn to read Proverbs chapter 1 where this verse found me. Of course He would lead me to exactly what I prayed for.
When we are running astray, feeling lost, our eyes and ears cannot be focused on God. Listen, He will guide you. He has a plan and a purpose for your life. Listen to Him and He will lead you into the life He has called you to. He can speak to us in many ways. He can speak to us through others. He can speak to us in our prayers. First, though, He speaks to us the most through His Word. Open your Bible and spend time listening to Him. Learn from Him. He will guide you. Spend time just sitting in the Lord's presence. Listening is a choice. He may not give you the answer you are looking for, but He will give you an answer. He is all-knowing. Why would we not listen to the One who knows all things, who created all things?
When we place our trust in God, we can walk this earth feeling secure. It's called faith. If you live life in fear and worry, where is your faith? Walk this life in confidence knowing Who won the victory for you. Uncertainties are no stranger to any of us anymore. 2020 has been a year full of uncertainties. Where are your eyes and ears? Are they on the news stations, waiting for a medical breakthrough? Are they on the nations' leaders, hoping for different guidelines? Are they on the people around us, expecting them to give us comfort? Where your eyes and ears are now is where your security is. God is the secure One. He is unchanging. He is faithful. He has "plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future," says Jeremiah 29:11. There is no life more secure than the one who finds security in the Maker and Ruler of all things.
We can find security if our eyes and ears are focused on God, but rest in that. Rest in Him. Rest in His security, His comfort. Find rest in your faith in Him. Do you believe? Do you believe in His love? Do you believe He is greater than the enemy, that He has defeated the enemy? This is our comfort and rest. He is our comfort and rest.
